One for All

We all wondered the same thing: Why Cranes?

Why any particular species, for that matter? You choose Orcas, I choose Monarch butterflies, they choose Cranes. And here we are, arguing over which one of us should be funded for our efforts.

The umbrella is large enough to cover us all

We are safe when we have an umbrella

I don’t mind being wet, and I can survive if I’m soaked

But this is just as for you as for me

Which is where the umbrella comes in handy.

It’s for all of us

Not just you

or me

And so the Crane is like an Umbrella. It could be considered an umbrella species, which means protecting the habitat of the Crane means protecting the habitat of so many other species. You are restoring wetlands all along its vast migration route, and this restores the home of countless other creatures. The Crane appreciates the service, I’m sure. But it’s the party under the umbrella which is where you want to be.
